– 1 box chocolate cake mix
– 1 cup water
– 1/2 cup vegetable oil
– 3 large eggs
– 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
– 1 (8 oz) jar caramel sauce
– 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (like Cool Whip)
– 1 (1.4 oz) to 2 oz chocolate bar or chocolate shavings, for garnish
– Optional: crushed nuts or toffee bits for added crunch

Step-by-Step Instructions
First and foremost, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Then, in a large mixing bowl, I like to combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. I usually use an electric mixer to make it all wonderfully fluffy, but you can certainly whisk it by hand if you prefer that method. Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Bake it for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Once it’s done, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, I poke holes all over the top of the cake using a fork.
