Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
Equipment Needed
- Mixing bowl
- Loaf pan
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Frying pan (for sautéing onions)
- Spoon or spatula for mixing
- Meat thermometer
Step-by-Step Instructions
To start, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). I like to get this out of the way first so that the oven is nice and hot by the time my meatloaf mixture is ready to bake. Next, I sauté the chopped onions in a little oil until they’re soft and fragrant. This step is crucial—it not only mellows the flavor of the onions, but it also adds a lovely depth to the whole dish. Once they’re done, set them aside to cool for a few minutes. (See the next page below to continue steps…)
