Korean Beef Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Green onions, sliced for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for sprinkling

Equipment Needed

  • Large skillet
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Serving plates

Step-by-Step Instructions

First things first, I heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is nice and hot, I add in the chopped onion and sauté it for about three minutes until it’s softened and fragrant. Then, I toss in the minced garlic and continue cooking for another minute. It smells absolutely divine at this point! Next, I add in the ground beef, breaking it apart with my spatula, and cook until it’s browned and no longer pink. This should take about 5-7 minutes. At this stage, I can really feel the excitement building in my kitchen! (See the next page below to continue steps…)
