– 1 large egg
– 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 cup marinara sauce (divided)
– 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Olive oil for greasing
Equipment Needed
– Large mixing bowl
– Baking dish or loaf pan
– Cooking spray or olive oil
– Baking sheet (optional)
– Spatula or wooden spoon
– Knife for slicing
Step-by-Step Instructions
First things first, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while you gather your ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and milk. I find that mixing with my hands gives me the best texture, so don’t be shy about getting in there! Remember to add in the minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper for flavor. Once everything is combined, take half of the meat mixture and form it into a loaf shape in your baking dish. Place a line of mozzarella cheese right down the center. Then, take the remaining meat mixture and carefully cover the cheese, sealing it well on the sides. (See the next page below to continue steps…)
